Trivia Day
The Bexley North Cancerians held a fun-filled Trivia & Games day at Jannali Uniting Church Hall in support of cancer research recently. A wonderful time was had by all – raising $1,000.00 on the day. Thank you to Jannali Uniting Church Rev Garth Thomas and members of the Church Council for their generosity and support on the day.
Mother’s Day luncheon
A much loved annual event of the Bexley North Cancerians is the committee’s Mother’s day luncheon. “Considering it was a very rainy morning, there was an excellent turnout – and the sun came out just as the luncheon was breaking up,” said ACRF staff member Cathy McGough, who had the pleasure of attending the 2009 Mother’s Day event. “The food selection was amazing – not to mention the desserts!” she added. Everyone had a lovely time – and the committee raised over $1200.00 on the day. Thank you to all who attended!
VALE: Betty Palmer
A sad loss for our Bexley North Cancerians and the Australian Cancer Research Foundation come news of the passing of long-time President – Betty Palmer. Betty, who had been ill for some time had, nevertheless, continued to work hard to make sure all the Bexley Cancerians functions were a big success. At her funeral and memorial service her family told us that one of the great highlights of Betty’s life was her visit to Westmead Millennium Foundation to see Crown Princess Mary of Denmark. The Crown Princess was interested in finding out the latest melanoma work being done by the team which had received funding from ACRF.
Cancerians celebrate royal visit
Royal fever hit our Bexley North Cancerians recently. The dedicated group celebrated the arrival of the Danish royal couple with a fundraiser in the garden of committee treasurer June Peverell. Guests were served a delectable selection of sweet and savoury treats, whilst helping to raise $621 for cancer research in Australia. “‘The Crown Princess’ charity work in Australia is an inspiration to us all,” said committee member Betty Holman. ACRF Chief Executive Officer David Brettell deemed the afternoon an overwhelming success. “Our Bexley Cancerians Committee certainly knows how to enjoy themselves, while doing good things for the community at the same time. We loved being a part of their special day and value their efforts enormously.”
Annual Christmas luncheon
The Bexley North Cancerians Committee annual Christmas Luncheon was once again a great success, commencing the festive season for the 45 guests in attendance. After a delicious buffet lunch, the Committee’s recently retired Vi Highett kept the tradition rolling by dressing in a Santa hat and delivering a delightful gift to each and every guest. This annual event raises valuable funds for the Foundation with a charming display of arts and crafts on sale and a wonderful raffle.
