ACRF 2022 Grant Announcement

The brilliance ACRF is backing in 2022.

Australian Cancer Research Foundation (ACRF) is proud to announce the award of a $2.1M grant to Olivia Newton-John Cancer Research Institute (ONJCRI) to establish the cutting-edge ACRF Centre for Precision Medicine.

An ACRF grant is provided only to progressive projects that will take us forward in our shared mission to reach a world without cancer. We believe this year’s award to ONJCRI will help towards this mission.

“ACRF is proud to enable transformative research that will be conducted at the Centre for Precision Medicine, accelerating translation of discoveries into the clinic to ensure optimal outcomes for cancer patients.” Kerry Strydom, ACRF CEO

Accelerating new life-saving therapies from the laboratory to Australian cancer patients.

The ACRF Centre for Precision Medicine will utilise a “theranostic” approach of combined imaging and treatment with novel drugs to enhance therapeutic responses and exploit new technology for tumour treatment. Theranostics is an exciting area of cancer treatment - a form of precision medicine in which radioisotopes are combined to diagnose and treat a tumour.

The radiochemistry lab at the heart of the ACRF Centre for Precision Medicine will support the supply of radiopharmaceuticals for theranostic trials - meaning Australian cancer patients can access new therapies as they’re developed.

Precision oncology can benefit up to 50% of cancer patients by determining the most effective treatment based on their cancer’s profile, rather than a one size fits all approach.

“The ACRF Centre for Precision Medicine will establish a unique and exciting capability for translation of discoveries into the clinic and provide a key technology for theranostics for multi-centre clinical trials across Australia.” ACRF Centre for Precision Medicine, Chief Investigator, Professor Andrew Scott AM

Our role in research funding

ACRF provides grants of between $1M and $10M for technology, equipment and infrastructure for cancer research.

Led by the ACRF Medical Research Advisory Committee (MRAC), ACRF grant submission and selection takes place annually, in consultation with the ACRF Board of Trustees

Our goal is to enhance, enable and accelerate cancer research across Australia to the maximum extent possible each year in order to achieve the vision of a world without cancer.

ACRF Centre for Precision Medecine

$174m funded

Since 1984, ACRF has facilitated the investment of over $174m in 82 cancer projects Australia-wide.

ACRF funds grants of $1M - $10M

ACRF provides privately funded grants of between $1M and $10M to support vital technology, equipment and infrastructure.

Private funding

ACRF’s year-on-year philanthropic investment equates to around 30% of all non-government funding in cancer research infrastructure in Australia.

The ACRF Medical Research Advisory Committee (MRAC)

Our highly esteemed Medical Research Advisory Committee (MRAC) reviews, scrutinises, and competitively evaluates funding applications from Australian researchers, across a wide spectrum of projects.

ACRF promotes collaboration amongst researchers and clinicians and encourages novel and innovative cancer research projects.
