The Garvan Institute of Medical Research & St Vincent’s & Mater Health Sydney was awarded a $2.5 million grant to establish a new world-class comprehensive cancer centre – the Garvan St Vincent’s Campus Cancer Centre – on the St Vincent’s research precinct in Sydney.

The centre, called the Kinghorn Cancer Centre, supports multidisciplinary teams for the holistic and ultimately improved care of patients throughout their cancer treatment and fosters the highest level of collaboration between researchers and clinical investigators.

The Garvan group is seen as one of the best basic breast cancer biology research groups in Australia. It has a strong commitment to translational research in breast cancer and other cancers.

    In 2015, we awarded $10 million seed funding to an ambitious cancer proteome project that aims to provide each cancer patient a personalised treatment plan within 36 hours. This will improve treatment outcomes and help avoid unnecessary treatments.
