Sydney’s Iconic Real Insurance Sydney Harbour 10&5K will be taking us back to the 80’s & 90’s for their 2024 event

Channel your inner “Kath & Kim”, as Sydney’s most entertaining event in winter takes us back in time to where it all began…

As running culture experiences a huge resurgence, we find ourselves heading back to its roots – and that is the vibrant, high-energy running scene of the 80s and 90s that made running what it is today. Our mission? To celebrate this renaissance with the “Run back in time, Retro Run”, a running event that’s more than just a race, it’s a time-travelling experience, a throwback that merges fitness, fun, and nostalgia!

In 2024, runners of the Real Insurance Sydney Harbour 10&5K can expect to experience an unforgettable event that not only celebrates the current running boom but pays homage to the era that revolutionised it all. Runners of all ages are welcome, especially those who reminisce about the days of neon spandex, big hair, and great tunes, alongside a new generation eager to experience the retro trend firsthand. As always, we will also have an elite wave in each event for our competitive friends too.

2024 will also see our renewed mission to help support lifesaving cancer research through our partnership with Australian Cancer Research Foundation (ACRF). Also founded in the 80s, this year we will support ACRF as they celebrate their 40-year milestone of funding bold, brave and brilliant cancer research across Australia.

About the event

Whether you want to break a personal best on the 10K course or take your time to enjoy the entertainment on the 5K, every stride is a step closer to our vision of a world without cancer. Show your support and join us in raising vital funds for ACRF to give the people you love Australia’s best cancer research by running the Real Insurance Sydney Harbour 10&5K on Sunday 28 July 2024, this year!

The event is known for delivering the fastest and flattest course along Sydney Harbour but this year we will be upping the game on the experience too. In addition to the 80s & 90’s vibe and dress-up, you can expect more music, more entertainment and more fun. So, whether you’re looking to race a PB or just to have a fun day out, the Real Insurance Sydney Harbour 10&5K is not to be missed.

In addition to being a fun day out for everyone, each year the event attracts some elite contenders looking to take out the title! Olympians such as Eloise Wellings, Ryan Gregson, Genevieve Gregson and Ben St Lawrence have all participated previously.

A snapshot of activities on the day

  • Pre-race warm-up: The event will commence with a pre-race retro aerobics led by instructors in full 80s workout attire. The music will be bangers.
  • Dress Up: Participants are encouraged to dress in their best 80s and 90s gear. Think bright activewear, short shorts, leg warmers and sweatbands. Runners will also receive a retro-inspired headband as part of their entry fee.
  • Music zones: Music zones along the course will play hits from the 80s and 90s, with the post-event village being turned into a giant party.
  • Pop culture pit stops: Themed zones will be set up along the course, each representing all things 80s or 90’s.
