Nine year-old Gabi Scott recently raised over $2000 for cancer research by asking supporters to donate to her ‘Biggest Shave Ever for a Good Cause’ held on 30 November 2010.
In her touching request for support, Gabi shared her motivation for the event: “I am shaving my hair to raise money for cancer research. I have a friend who is nine like me who has cancer and I know a lot of people who are trying to fight it off.”
Gabi’s mother, Kerrie Scott, said her daughter was quite excited to shave her head and the event went very well.
“I heard one of the other girls saying I might just shave my hair because Gabi looks cool,” said Kerrie.
Far exceeding the family’s initial target of $500, Gabi’s event was not only a fundraising success but also a display of true friendship and courage.
From everyone at the Australian Cancer Research Foundation, we thank the very brave Gabi and all her supporters for contributing to the fight against cancer. Our thoughts are with your dear friend who is battling this awful disease.
*January 2011 Update – The Foundation is saddened to hear of the passing of Gabi’s friend James recently. Our sympathies to his family and friends on this significant loss. We are proud to have been part of an event that honoured such a wonderful boy.
